I'm your admin, you can call me Jack or Wraidd, and I've set this place up as a private corner of the internet for friends and friends-of that have a vague interest in not selling their entire life profile to our megacorp overlords. Think of this system like the BBSes of old – a collection of services intended to foster community with like-minded people.

The following services are currently available:

• Email – your account has a full-fledged email address, accessible via the web or email client
• XMPP Chat – simple instant messenger chat like AIM, ICQ, or MSN
• Matrix Chat – feature-rich chat like Slack or Discord
• Nextcloud – file sync, calendar, contacts, to-do, and more – a Google services replacement
• Searx – privacy-forward search engine
• Calibre – an ebook library

Here's what I'd like to implement in the immediate future:

• Mastodon – a Twitter-like microblogging service with a small-ish but thriving community
• Invitations – while I can generate accounts for people, it'd be cool if you could just invite your friends directly.
• Web space – I'd like to provide web space for everyone, like a Wordpress or something, but I'm still reviewing available options
• Others TBD!

A lot of the mobile software I suggest is primarily or only available through F-Droid, which is a repository of open-source, generally privacy-respecting Android software. Some of the suggested software is also available through the Google Play store, but in general it's better from a privacy perspective to download from F-Droid. Apologies to iOS users – I haven't owned an iOS device in over ten years so I don't have any insight to offer there.

Server costs are pretty minimal but I'll be setting up a donation page at some point, since my income right this minute is pretty hit or miss. In any event it'll never be mandatory, just a way to help out if you like what I'm doing here.

Moonbeam Town runs YUNoHost on a Kimsufi VM located in France.
